Long term benefit A student being required to pass proficiency tests before being allowed to the next grade has long-term benefits compared to the reasoning behind social promotion. In relation to social promotion, student happiness would be short lived since he/she would have trouble securing a decent job in future while in the other case a student would not encounter such difficulties. In other words, he would be able to find a job and exercise his/her skills. 3. Promotes hard work Students would be made to work hard knowing that they would be required to pass a mandatory test in order to move to the next grade (Rothschild). It is also a way of restoring sanity in schools The idea of social promotion only makes students feel as if they are on a vacation since it is not mandatory for them to pass exams.
