First of all, according to the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English, education “is the process of teaching and learning usually at school”. One of the most important ways of gaining knowledge is through formal schooling. There are lots of stages of formal schooling which includes elementary education (primary school), high - school education and college education. In this essay we are going to speak about the different types of education. To begin with, we should mention on-line education. In the last few years, it became really popular. It is ideal for adults who want to study, for example, a foreign language, because there is no need to attend to a formal class and everybody can learn at its own pace. On the negative side, some people think that it is not the best way of learning and it is really better to be a part of an actual course. Moreover, we have to say that compared with traditional face-to-face classes, on-line students interact less frequently with their teachers and classmates. In addition, their limited social interaction is generally lower in quality. Experienced educators consider that some interactions which take place in the traditional classroom cannot be replicated on-line. Furthermore, we cannot forget home education. To start with, we have to say that it is not very popular in our country, but it is really usual in the United States of America. It is the option taken by parents who do not want their children to suffer some of the problems that the school system has in the USA, such as bullying, for example. They also consider that in this way their kids can manage their own time and learn at their own speed, and that they do not have to study some subjects that they consider not relevant. Another advantage is that with home education kids can achieve their full potential. But on the negative side, some people think that with this kind of tutoring, children do not make any friends and became unsociable.
