Mount Pleasant is a short story published in 2005 written by Marie-Louise Buxton,  about a girl named Elizabeth, who with her parents and younger sister Lena, move to a town called Mount Pleasant. The story is written in first person narrative, from Elizabeth’s point of view. The text takes up themes such as gender differences, what it’s like living in a suburb, ghosts, and children’s imaginations. The title of the story is Mount Pleasant. Mount Pleasant is the suburban town in South America that the family just moved to. There’s a lot of slang in the text, which tells us that the story probably takes place somewhere in the Southern States of America. The way the story is written emphasizes the fact that it’s a child who is the first person narrator. This is seen places in the text where Elizabeth says "babby" instead of "baby" and "mammy" instead of "mommy". “They feel on my face like the glue we peel off our hands after arts crafts hour at school with Mrs. Kelly”.
