I was elected the Senior Class President of my class this past year. It has been a lot more responsibility than I expected, but I can always count on myself to rise to the occasion. I feel it has been a major factor in my preparation for college because it has taught me how to organize my time and handle large stress loads. One of the things that appealed to me most while running for the position was the ability the president has to make great impacts in the lives of the individual students. I can vividly remember many high school memories from activities that the previous presidents designed. Every student deserves to have at least one moment where they feel like they belong. I wanted my high school to feel like a family. I wanted to make high school a memorable experience for every single student. Being elected class president has helped me to expand my horizons and associate myself with others that I may not have before. To be the president, you must be sociable and friendly. It is a basic requirement that you listen to your peers wants and needs. Sometimes it is even essential that you put others opinions before your own, which is often very challenging. You have to become selfless and realize what will be best for the greater good instead of what is best for yourself. One of the major lessons I learned from this position is that you cannot achieve any big goal by yourself. You always need someone there to help you. I did not realize the reality of that until I began to plan big events. I learned that there is always someone waiting for you to ask for help. No matter how talented you are, you cant accomplish major things alone. This experience has humbled me greatly in that respect. I have learned to be a leader, which is a surprisingly more difficult process than most think.
