It is pretty well proven in the past times that there was a huge movement to push for freedom by stopping segregation. The promoters of such activity utilized rhetorical strategies to persuade their opponents of their claims. The proponent of the movement of Civil Rights for African Americans was probably the most intensive use of those strategies. The person of this essay is recognized as the best man to act on civil rights. This man is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who was placed in jail on April 16, 1963, because of his work for civil rights. He received the daily newspaper with a letter inside that eight white clergymen published in regards to Dr.King, and he quickly responded with a letter of his own to deal with the situation. As I go into detail about Dr.King it will be easy to discover that King persuades his readers through Aristotle’s three types of persuasion which are appeals to ethos, pathos, and logos. He uses these three appeals by his own reputation and wisdom, he tries to arouse emotions or sympathy in the readers, and he appeals to logic, supported with evidence and citations from influential thinkers. Martin Luther King Jr was a pastor and civil rights leader from Atlanta Georgia, who was put in jail after being a part of the Birmingham campaign. At the time King was serving as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, but was asked by an Alabama group to come to Birmingham and participate in a program that was aimed toward non-violence. The Alabama Christian group was the name they went by, and they quickly jumped to the task and organized non-violent protests against racial segregation in Birmingham, Alabama. The plan to protest didn’t go as planned and all that was a part of this group were put in jail. While in jail, eight clergymen submitted a statement in the local newspaper stating that blacks should no longer seek support from Dr.King, and the demonstrators that protested along with him. A few days later King received the news while in jail of these eight men and replied to them and aimed towards what is called the “white moderate”. “White Moderate” is a large community, and King wanted everyone that was
