Throughout the 20th to the 21st century accommodations like, television, internet, and radios have become an essential measure in peoples lives. Typically, when a person sees television, they tend to not grasp the different messages in the images the producers try to display in media, advertisement or in politics. It might even seem that people are accustomed with these images, that they ignore the actual meaning of them and take what they see as reality. Why does such a thing happen, why is it that people choose to be controlled by images? Even if the images are immoral as well as irrational, we tend to ignore them due to the fact that we are accustomed to them and see them constantly. One may even say that humans are unaware of visual semiotics. Consequently, advertisement, media and politics all know the power that imagery has on people and so; they all display a vast variety of images in order to shape peoples thoughts into believing something or persuading them. Furthermore, as we analyze the documentary, Consuming Images by, Bill Moyers we see how the images we see have drastically impacted our way of life and the way we think; images make the viewer purchase different objects, grasp viewers attention for entertainment and even to acquire votes in a political campaign. ?Through the years society has been overturned by images, we really on the images we see in television to determine how we dress, look, and the things we buy. It is to say that images have had such a dramatic impact in our lives that they have shaped us into who we are today. Also, Stuart Ewen, states in the film Consuming Images, that as people sees these images in advertisement they give them meaning and in a way give the image validity. Evidently people take what they see as reality and believe everything they see. Furthermore, as we see in the film, we begin to understand why they say that society has lost all creativity and is now stuck in a world created by images. Throughout the film, it gives us countless examples on how imagery has shaped our own private thoughts. For instance, one example the film uses to illustrate how commercials/ images make us purchase the things we purchase is by using celebrities. Due to the fact that people idolize celebrities, if a celebrity advertises a product the consumer is willing to purchase it because they see the product as something they must have to feel good about themselves.
