Date rape incidents are increasing. There are a few date rape drugs accounted for besides rohypnol, or “roofies”. These drugs can be obtained in a few different ways and used by horrible people with the idea of date rape. These drugs, like many others, have side effects. Some of the drugs used in date rapes have had some positive uses. Like GHB has been used in a positive way before it was used in rapes. There are a few main “go to” drugs for date rape. There are a few different drugs used in date rape occurrences. First off, date rape is forced sex. Usually done by people the person knows. This is also called ‘acquaintance rape’(Date) .Drinkin causes aggressive tendencies and low common sense (Alcohol). Date rape can occur in a relationship due to aggression and violence (Date). “Rohypnol has been on an alarming rise and is a problem at the University of Florida” (Broughton). Rohypnol was prescribed as a sleeping pill in Europe and Latin America (Sawyer). Some street names used for rohypnol are: Love drug, roofies, roche, R-2, rib, rope, and date rape drug of choice (Staten). There were International efforts to reduce the use of rohypnol, but that brought forward the use of GHB, ketamine, and GBL (Date-Rape). Another drug used in rapes is GHB. GHB puts people in a ‘trance-like’ state (Davis). One of these drugs used in the rapes is Ketamine. Ketamine is not illegal. It is a very useful tranquilizer, used with small children and small animals (Forget). Ketamine can also be known as ‘special K’ (Davis). Sexual predators are the main abusers of the date rape drugs rohypnol, GHB, GBL, and ketamine. The drug is easily obtained by these predators (Date-Rape). These predators receive these drugs using internet pharmacies and the mail system (Date-Rape). Rohypnol has no known medical use, is not prescribed and is not produced in the U.S. (Forget).
