Does name calling hurt you? If not are you the one calling people names? The spoken word poem To This Day by Shane Koyczan demonstrates how name calling or to say the least, bullying can have an impact on people. The purpose of the spoken word poem is to make awareness of bullying, to show how it can have long lasting impact on an individual, it is something hard to forget or erase from their memory. You are not alone. To illustrate, many students walk down school hallways everyday, and sometimes cannot help but to overhear conversations exchanged between fellow classmates. These conversations often contain the name calling towards other students, seems like every school has an arsenal of names getting updated every year (Koyczan). The name calling can seem like a harmless deed to the people who are updating the list every year. The name calling though thought harmless can have a profound effect on the individual, it is something that will stay with him or her for the rest of their life, it will be a constant reminder that they have a quality that will always make them stand out. Having experienced the whole process of name calling, I know that once you hear it you can not help but repeat it to yourself until you end up believing it and doubt yourself. Sometimes you feel so down in the dumps that you want to commit suicide or even worse, kill a kid, as said Shane Koyczan, When I was 12 I wanted to die. When I was 13, I wanted to kill a kid. Words are stronger than any force in the world, it is preferred to think twice before you decide to share your thoughts on someone or something. Nobody denies that at one point in their life they have said the phrase, everyone is beautiful in their own way. That is a great mindset, but once they see someone that does not meet their standard they are quick to call them ugly or something of that sort. For example, a humble young man builds up the courage to talk to a girl and possibly ask her out. T
