The Story of Oedipus has many strange series of events including marrying his own mother and having children of their own. Does this make Oedipus a great King or does it make him fit as a King? These questions we can answer and maybe conclude he could have been a great King from the start but if had talked to the King of Corinth, his adopted father, in which he was not aware of his role until after the series of events. Oedipus falls from his position as King of Thebes because he followed his own understandings and not followed through with his adopted parents. When King Laius and Queen Jocaste went to go meet with the Oracle of Delphi, they were not given horrific news regarding about their only son and child regarding their future but disturbing information regarding their son, Oedipus. He would not only kill his father, King Laius, but he would also wed his mother, Queen Jocaste in the making. For this not to ruin The Thebes Kingdom, Jocaste, gave Oedipus to a servant to banish the boy in the mountains and away from the royal family. Before banishing him to the mountains, King Laius pierced the young boy's ankles and tied them together so that we would not crawl. The servant ended up giving the boy to a Shepard, but ended up in the Kingdom of Corinth into the royal family who wanted to adopt him. King Polybus and his wife Merope of Corinth adopted the boy and named him Oedipus, also known as injuries and/or swelling to the ankles. Oedipus would be now known as the Prince to King Polybus of Corinth and later would be named King of Corinth as well since he is now the son of The King and Queen of Corinth. Years later, Oedipus would be told that he is not the same blood as King Polybus and Queen Merope of Corinth, which led Oedipus to speak with his parents regarding the news he was informed.
