ABSTRACT The North American Free Trade Agreement or NAFTA for its acronym in English (North American Free Trade Agreement) is what is called the legal culmination of a long process in the multilateral trade system between different countries. Trade liberalization and economic integration are a potential source of profit, as they contribute to the expansion of markets, generating economies of scale and regional harmony of economic policies. Similarly, deepening competition may involve greater efficiency and expansion of productive capital. The theme of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) is perceived as part of the reality of Mexico, popular product of that complex phenomenon; globalization. We assume that the process of regionalization is by nature a strategic or political interest. In the particular case of NAFTA, that interest is manifested in principle that takes place between countries with levels as unequal as in the case of Mexico development. INTRODUCTION 1. PROBLEM AND PURPOSE OF STUDY The fact refer to NAFTA is a challenge because it is one of the most controversial issues in the country, this based on the interdependent relationship that keeps Mexico with the United States which leads to keep certain rules defining trade. The terrorist attacks of September 11 is a further evidence of the prevalence of geo-strategy in international relations of the United States. This event was the ideal model for the United States to justify the fact that Mexico was concerned from the outset, in reducing exports because of the creation of certain laws such as the law against bioterrorism as well as new economic treaties are creating, as the trilateral Alliance for Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, which includes the same-NAFTA nations.
