21 Pages 705 Words 1557 Views

In WWII the Japanese moved to Canada During this time the Japanese Canadians lost their whole lives. They lost their houses, boats, family and everything that they worked for. They did not deserve this life because they did not create the war and they did not kill any other Canadians; they were just living their lives and working for their family. The internment of Japanese-Canadians during WWII was not justified. There are three reasons why the interment was not justified: The RCMP declared that they were not an immediate threat, the Japanese-Canadians not only lost their freedom but all of their property and belongings during their time, and after their time the Canadian government admitted to being wrong and apologized and compensated the Japanese-Canadian citizens. The RCMP determined that there was no immediate threat and that the Japanese-Canadian citizens should not be sent to internment camps. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Canadians felt tension and started to feel anger towards the Japanese-Canadians as they thought that they were doing racist. This caused to Canadians, increase their racism towards Japanese-Canadian. During World War 2, after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Canadian government felt that Japanese immigrants could be a threat to the Canadian war. Even though the Canadian military didn’t feel that the Japanese were a threat to them, the community thought that the Japanese-Canadian showed too much sympathy for Japan. Because he community thought that, the government made a decision to move the Japanese to a “safety zone” in British Columbia. This was wrong because the Japanese didn’t do anything to deserve this. The RCMP and Canadian military opposed the internment when it started in December 7th, 1941. Right after the internment began, an RCMP officer wrote an anonymous letter to the government saying “We have had no evidence of intelligence or disruption among the Japanese in British Columbia”.
