Most parents of teenagers are concerned about what their teenage children do and how their behavior should be monitored. Some parents are trying to control their children’s behavior by observing, while others are more aggressive. They check their children’s digital devices such as; their computers, tablets and cell phones. Respecting the privacy of a teenager, could be difficult balancing act between not doing what the teen wants (e.g. not giving them any privacy) and allowing him or her the freedom and privacy to make his or her possibly bad choices. However, one of the reasons why teenagers should not have too much privacy is that unfettered use of social media may influence the pregnancy rate. An example of this might be increasing sexual content in online advertising, You Tube videos, Twitter and Facebook. In agreement with Stepp (2014) the fact of the matter is that the USA has the highest teen pregnancy rate. Young women would have a baby before they reach the age of 20. According to Hatter (2014) in the 1980’s the rate of the pregnancy was higher, but the rate has declined over the past two decades. These teenagers who had babies were married. Now days, Hatter asserts, most of the teens mothers are unwed. Nonetheless, if a teenager is using drugs or learning in that direction, the internet provides ample information to motivate a teen to learn how to do certain bad things such as the use of drugs and pornography. Friends, are also a big and dangerous influence. Teenagers whose friends smoke, drink or use drugs for example, are more likely to indulge in these behaviors themselves.
