Annotated Bibliography: Effects of Media Violence on Children Topic: Media Violence and Children Thesis: For many years media violence effect on children has been a continuous problem in America. In todays examples of media violence things such as TV, music, video games, and certain type of comic books lead to the down fall of many under age adults such as youths. Aggression can also cause a great impact on that child. When a child engages in one of these types of media it could take a toll on them. It could cause them to think the things that are going on or being said is right and tends to repeat the things they see, hear and say. Media Violence forces children to act a certain way causing their parents to wonder whats going on with them. In todays society children and youths dont have to go out to experience violence; it is brought into their home on a daily basis without them even realizing it. In the article The Influence of Media Violence on Youth the authors list a variety of ways children can be exposed to violent media, the most common way is media being presented in their homes. This type of media violence can result from watching television or playing video games. The article then moves on to discuss the observational learning of media and the imitations of it. Anderson states, Humans begin imitating other humans at a very early age, and the observation of others behaviors is the likely source of many young childs motor and social skill (43). The article would then move on and list out influences on these children such as their parents, neighbors, and culture. I will use this information to further discuss how young adults can be exposed to media by presenting forth statistics about studies of media being presented in their homes.
