In the Miller and Franklin's Tale, Alisoun and Dorigen are not loyal to their husbands because of the stupid decisions they make with men they do not love. Chaucer illustrates that to men, honesty within a marriage is crucial to their pride and manhood. Both tales show honesty and dishonesty within marriages. The Miller's Tale shows dishonesty because Alisoun ends up cheating on John with Nicholas. Alisoun is weak when she is wooed into sleeping with Nicholas. She shows unfaithfulness and is not to be trusted by her loyal, loving husband. Absolon, Alisoun's other lover, is deeply in love with her. When he tries to kiss her for the first time and fails, his embarrassment towards his defeat is shown. When Nicholas farts on Absolon and is then struck by the hot brand, it truly shows Absolon's anger and his willingness to do a lot for Alisoun's love. When it is all over, the whole situation comes out to be very messed up because of all the lying, taunting, and cheating that each character shows throughout the tale. The Franklins tale is a smaller example of dishonesty. Since Arviragus is out of town and sent away to Britain, Dorigen is more likely to be picked up on by other men. At the beginning of the tale Dorigen is strong with her word to be faithful while her husband is gone, but shows cockiness when she is approached by her lover, Aurelius. The only thing that she struggles to see is the black rocks that cover the cliff side. If the ship hits into the black rocks it will cause it to crash and sink to the bottom of the ocean along with her husband. Dorigen meets a handsome man named Aurelius who has loved Dorigen for two years without her knowing. Aurelius wants Dorigen to love him but knows she is married to a noble man. After talking and dancing for a little, Dorigen jokes and says the only way he can win her heart is if he somehow clears all the rocks from the coast.
