?INTRODUCTION Over the past decades the number of research articles devoted to studying the linguistic personality dramatically increased. Scientists gave different interpretations to this term and discussed the structure and properties of LP from different aspects. In the broad sense, “LP – is an abstract model for a number of language carriers, in the narrower – a systematized combination of language and verbal units that are typical of a certain native speaker” [20, p. 1]. Person’s mental, linguistic, behavior peculiarities, their nationality and individuality has become the center of many investigations. Linguistic personality or a person exists in the center of communication and reflects their own language experience as well as the experience of all mankind through the language. Great attention is dedicated to investigation of such notions as “the author’s image”, “the author’s individuality”, “idiostyle of the literary character’” etc. The peculiarities of character’s idiostyle play an important role in the creation and discovery of the literary image of the character, which help reader form an opinion about the character and increase the understanding of the author’s intentions. The main emphasis will be laid on the peculiarities of reproduction of the linguistic personality of Jupiter in Edgar Allan Poe’s short story “The Gold Bug” in the Ukrainian translation by Rostyslav Dotsenko. The aim of this research paper - discovering main ways of rendering speech peculiarities on the basis of linguistic personality of Jupiter in Edgar Allan Poe’s short story “The Gold Bug” in the Ukrainian translation by Rostyslav Dotsenko. The objectives of this course paper are the following: to dwell upon general theoretical peculiarities of the linguistic personality; to study the ways of rendering of speech peculiarities of the linguistic personality in the written form; to reveal phonetic, grammatical and lexical deviations from the standard language used by the author of the literary text for individualizing idiolect of a literary character; to analyze strategies, applied during rendering of the speech peculiarities of linguistic personality of Jupiter by Rostyslav Dotsenko in Edgar Allan Poe’s short story “The Gold Bug”; Linguistic personality in the Edgar Allan Poe’s short story “The Gold Bug” are the object of this research paper, while the reproduction of speech peculiarities of Jupiter are its subject. As far as the methods are concerned, we have applied contrastive, contextual, descriptive and analytical methods of analysis. The theoretical data are based on works of such researchers as E.Sapir [22], V. Kuharenko [3], [4], Yu.Karaulov [8], N.Frolov [7], V.Liutikova [17], Yu.Stepanova [18], G.Leech [9]. The research paper consists of introduction, two chapters, conclusions, and a list of references. Introduction contains the brief content of theoretical information provided in the research paper. The first chapter deals with the theoretical information on the subject of linguistic personality, as well as theoretical problems of realization of linguistic personality in the written form. The main methods of rendering the speech peculiarities of the linguistic personality are discussed. The second chapter characterizes the main strategies of reproduction of the speech peculiarities of the linguistic personality of Jupiter in Edgar Allan Poe’s short story “The Gold Bug” and their reproduction in the Ukrainian translation by Rostyslav Dotsenko. All the results are presented in conclusions. CHAPTER I. THE NOTION OF LINGUISTIC PERSONALITY. LEVELS OF THE SPEECH ANALYSIS 1.1. The notion of linguistic personality. The expression of oneself, something that makes us different from one another is usually called “personality”. This notion is commonly used to refer to someone's uniqueness, including their individual traits, feelings, position in life and goals. We find a way to express ourselves by our style, appearance, actions, by every step and movement, but most of all we express ourselves by what we say and how we say it, because any personality expresses itself and his or her essence through subjective activity and communication, which is impossible without language and speaking. No other personality factor counts so much for or against us as does our speech, because it reflects our social experience, status, individual way of thinking (age, education, profession, place of residence) [21, p. 1]. The first reference to linguistic personality was made by Humboldt follower L.Weisgerber, a German linguist who specialized in Celtic linguistics. In Russian linguistics the term was introduced in the early 30's by academician V.Vinogradov, linguist and literary scholar. In the same period such an issue was discussed by L. Weisgerber.
