"About a Boy," by Nick Hornby, tells the story about two individuals who are living in total opposite worlds. On one hand, there is Marcus, he lives alone with his mother Fiona, who had a suicide attempt. And on the other side is Will who is a rich and shallow person, which never cared about someone except himself. Both of them are outsiders, Marcus is excluded from the society, and Will is it by choice and somehow their lives are getting linked after several events that happen to them. It all begins at the Dead Duck Day, where Marcus and Will meet each other for the first time. This day the events just cross one the other and are getting worse. First marcus kills a duck and he begins to unlike Will, who is in his eyes just a superficial guy, and then Fiona, Marcus' mother, tries to kill herself. That's the moment Marcus realizes he needs another adult person in his life that could take care of him, if something similar happen again. He starts to think and chooses Will; he is the only male character that he knows, to start dating his mother. His plan comes true at a lunch in a restaurant where Will and Fiona see each other again after the suicide attempt: "Don't just sit there. Talk to each other. Marcus wants to accomplish his plan of getting his mother and Will together. He tries everything to find something that both of them could have in common but it is harder than it looks like. He thinks Fiona should choose the same food then Will, so they could start to talk about it. Despite the fact that his mother is a vegetarian and Will isn't, the problems grow and it would not change the conditions. This shows that Marcus is desperate and he uses, literally, every little string to hold on to. He forces them to talk but the situation just become more bizarre. Even though, Marcus has to work and do the first step to get closer to Will and so to his goal. Later, Marcus goes and spends his time after school at Will's apartment. They watch
