21 Pages 712 Words 1557 Views

Plants need nutrients to grow and fertilizers are an excellent source of nutrients that the soil may be missing. In this experiment, we will discover the rate of growth of a radish plant based on different types of fertilizers (organic, and inorganic). Plants go through a process called osmosis, in which the plants absorb water from the soil, into their roots. This is where the plant will absorb the nutrients from the fertilizer. A fertilizer is any material that supplies plants necessary nutrients for its growth. Organic and synthetic fertilizers add the same nutrients to the soil for the plant to grow; however, organic fertilizers work differently than synthetic fertilizers. Because organic fertilizers are made from natural resources, such as crop residues or livestock manure, it blends with and provides the major nutrients needed for plants to grow. The major nutrients are nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. These essential elements provide major sustenance to promote growth, development and maturity to the plant. While most farmers prefer using organic fertilizers to avoid pesticides and any chemicals get into their plant or any kind of produce as well as control the disease, growing organic products entails a lot of attention and maintenance. Since it is all natural and has no chemicals included in it, insects are prone to attack the produce because of the absence of the chemicals are usually insect repellent. Inorganic fertilizer is another name for chemical fertilizer. Although it boosts the growth rate of the plant, improper use/measurement of synthetic fertilizer could cause damage to plants. The condition of the final product of the plants and how well the nutrients and water is retained to the soil, is dependent to its condition. Nitrogen is one of the major nutrients that the plants need for strong growth. “Nitrogen was discovered by the Scottish physician Daniel Rutherford in 1772. Nitrogen can be supplied to a pla
