Risks are the essence of life. In the beginning, they are our instinct. We learn to crawl despite the bruises on our knees and elbows. We learn to walk despite the many falls we endure. But as we get older and gain a greater consciousness of the world around us, somewhere along the way we are presented with failure; at that point, we try to eliminate most risks from our life. But where would we be without our sense of exploration, our willingness to try new things despite the failures that await us? In either case, as long as I have something meaningful to say about the experience and its impact on me then it's okay. Sandra Cisnero a Mexican American writer, best known for her acclaimed first novel "The House on Mango Street  and twentieth century American writer, and Stanford graduate Allegra Goodman's "Writer on Writing; O.K., You're Not Shakespeare. Now Get Back to Work , state that risk taking is a must in writing if we want to be successful in it and stand out among others. Risk taking is necessary for all writers to uptake because it is a learning process, which leads to understating our inner critic and finding of our voice during the writing process. The most important thing that we can do before writing an essay is to get a very clear meaning on what a risk is. A risk, by definition, means that I am doing something whose outcome is uncertain and that I stand to lose something if the outcome does not go my way. For instance, when I was writing my essays I would always try to add more detail to explain my point. This risk of adding more in depth detail led me to failure due to the fact that my details swayed away from my topic sentence, and made me lose focus of the papers main point. According to Allegra Goodman, "If you want to write, or really to create anything, you have to risk falling on your face.  What I understand from this is that to become a better writer I must take a risk which will ultimately lead to failure, but not total failure.
