This generation has come to age of a new millennium. With the rise of new media, the people of this generation, called Millennials, are way different from the previous generations. The technology made us lazy. The way the parents raised us made us self entitled, arrogant, and narcissistic. In a way, this generation has been the most arrogant generation yet. But this generation holds promise and potential. This generation is said to be the most adaptable. We are not trying to take over and destroy the system, we make a new one. It’s the fact that we don’t need to follow a system which makes the previous generation scared of us. Millennials have been criticized as lazy, pretentious, self-entitled, and narcissistic. But what made us this way? In my opinion, there are three factors; new technology, new media, and the way previous generations raised us. Technology made Millennials lazy. These technologies made life a bit easier. Since some things seem to be easier and automated, we will be discouraged to do something manually. Millennials expect everything to be easy and expects that everything can be done in a push of a button. New media made Millennials pretentious. Everything is on the internet now. Easier access to information made us wanting to impress everyone with intelligence and open-mindedness. For example, we hate Joseph Kony because of his child-trafficking gimmick, making them join his private army; but we don’t really do anything about it. We only spread awareness; we do not do anything about big things. Millennials only want to sound smart because if people think that they’re not smart, it will lower their self-esteem and confidence. How we are raised made us self-entitled and narcissistic. Millennials were led to believe that they are special and can do great things in the future.
