I watched a speech which was published in web page of Ted Talks. The presentation was given by Graham Hill who is a writer and designer and the title of the presentation is that less stuff, more happiness. I choose this speech because he is a designer. In spite of his occupation, he thinks that less stuff brings happiness. I can say that he tried the show the idea that unnecessary furniture is obstacle to us and he was able to reflect this idea to listeners successfully during his speech. First of all, I would like to analyze organization and content of his presentation. He used a question about the box as an attention getting technique. It is a good way for taking attention but, he did not introduce himself at the beginning of the speech. I believe that introducing yourself is necessary if you are not a famous person. He gave the statistic information nicely. Also, he used some life based examples and examples were supported by pictures. I believe that giving examples strength the idea which is supported and he did it very well. Moreover, I think he did not use enough signposts. He used some transition words such as first of all. However, he should use some complex signposts for smooth transition like “now we will move on to”. Furthermore, he did a very good conclusion with giving advice. Secondly, I will analyze delivery of speech. I think he could control his voice and body. He used effective gestures which are a natural reflection of what he felt and what he had to say. Also, he was holding just remote control during presentation. Remote control leaded to look serious and professional. Also, he looked audience in normal time. Moreover, his voice was very good and used a nice intonation. The last analysis is about visual aids. He showed some pictures. I think they enriched the topic.
