“Like a star in the night, it can keep your faith bright, Like the sun, it can warm your hearts, too- it’s a gift you can give everyday that you live And when given it comes back to you!” Above is a quote from the poem, “Magic of Love,” written by Helen Farries, a poem that describes love in this magical way defining what you would call perfection. The perfect love poem for people who don’t know what love is. The poem she writes feels as if she was introducing love to someone. The kind of poem that tries to persuade someone to find love and pursue it until it’s caught. In my opinion after reading it a couple times gives off this fairy tale like tone that always has it happy ending. “Like a star in the night, it can keep your faith bright,” it is happiness and it does give you that warmth feeling of everything being okay. Helen Farries describes love in the beginning of a relationship, the puppy love that brings her to meet your mom love. Love is in fact a wonderful thing and if you been in it before, she does hits it right on the money. The only problem I have about it is that it doesn’t describe love in whole. If we were reading this to a child it will be perfect for him or her but to a person like me who’s 21 pushing 22, this does nothing but eh you get the point. It isn’t something that could interest me but back to it. She describes how love is gentle and kind and how if you find it, all your dreams will come true. The fact that it brings you comfort, and blessings from heaven above. A “wonderful gift that can give you a lift.” She talks about how you should treasure it and that may it never leave from you and your love, but that’s just it. What about the part when it does leave you? Or the part where things go south and if you really love that person, you’ll stick it out and work on it. Helen talks about loving a person so it’s not like she’s talking about loving an object that can’t love
