Based on the model of Robert Katz the skills that accounted for the success of Coach Knight are technical skills and conceptual skills. He has very good knowledge on or the ability to know about what strategy will work for winning the game and the course of action for the team to win the games. The conceptual skills are very good for the Coach Knight and he not only concentrated on winning the games but he took his team to the next or higher levels winning the gold medals and national championships. He was excelled in this two skills or traits. The Coach Knight undoubtedly lacks or deficient in the Human skills. Because of his inappropriate behavior a number of talented players left the Indiana University basketball program. His former players speak openly about his verbal and physical abuses. One of the examples is during a game in 1985against Purdue he plucked a plastic chair from behind him and hurled it across the floor, safely away from the people but in clear view for all to see (Snook, Perlow, & DeLacey, 2005). The Coach Krzyzewski success skills are Human skills and Conceptual skills. He cares more about the people and the team performance. He took the team with his ideas of conceptual skills to the higher level winning the national championships and gold medals. The Coach Krzyzewski stated, “I don't want to be a manager or a dictator. I want to be a leader-and leadership is ongoing, adjustable, flexible, and dynamic” (Snook, Perlow, & DeLacey, 2005). As the leader grows in the organization his human and conceptual skills are high compared to the technical skills. He also has good technical skills but however it seems he has less technical skills comparing to the other skills. The skill-based model of Mumford’s group has five components: competencies, individual attributes, leadership outcomes, career experiences, and environmental influences (Northouse, 2013). Based on this model the skills accounted for the success Coa
