Even in society today, many people still discriminate each other. Many clans such as the KKK despise colored folks. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Tom Robinson an innocent black figure is considered hated and discriminated by many of the white folks. Atticus Finch participates in the case of Tom Robinson and is judged from many folks in Maycomb because of his actions. The ability for Atticus to stand straight on his back without using violence is truly significant. Surprisingly, not just black folks are discriminated, but also including social classes. There are numerous ways at how people discriminate each other in Maycomb. Atticus is specifically targeted as one of the people who support the black because of the work his work towards Tom Robinson. Francis tells to Scout that, “Uncle Atticus lets you run around with stray dogs, that’s his own business, like Grandma says, so it ain't your fault. I guess it ain't your fault if Uncle Atticus is a nigger lover besides, but I'm here to tell you it certainly does mortify the rest of the family”(45) It goes to show how even family members related to the Finch’s our prejudice and how they live up to what have been told. Even though in Maycomb, many look down at the Finch’s, some still do believe at what Atticus is doing, it’s just that it’s hard for the others to speak. Atticus didn't really have a choice or not to execute this case, he only thought it was a right thing to do. Judge Taylor specifically wanted to test Atticus’s abilities at jury doing. Unfortunately, Atticus failed though the case took longer than expected to judge.
