In Romeo and Juliet, the famous tragedy by William Shakespeare, young Romeo exclaims, "Is love a tender thing? It is too rough, too boisterous and it pricks like a thorn." He states this to Mercutio while still lovestruck with Rosaline. This quote can be easily applied to modern/everyday life. Romeos stating that love can be fragile, confusing, painful and difficult to understand, presenting many obstacles. Many people, like Romeo, discover that love is much more challenging than initially perceived, things like divorce, arranged marriages, relocating jobs, and miscommunication are what contribute to the trouble of love. A very common event that supports this quote is divorce. Of first marriages 45% end in divorce (Divorce Statistics in America 1). Many people wed young and only soon after realize the responsibilities that come with becoming married. All sorts of complications arise, for instance, creating a family, building a home, careers, and financial difficulties. The stress level increases immensely, the two people who aren't truly fit for each other can not handle it, and unknowingly take on such a large commitment to each other and their family. Divorce can cause all kinds of pains to different people especially children. Something that no longer normally occurs in the United States but in Southern Asian countries such as India, Japan, and Bangladesh and also countries like Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan is arranged marriages (Savage 1). More often then not women are married off to men of high social and economic status. This can cause trouble and an awkward marriage because very often the husband and wife are not in love. In fact, sometimes one person can be in love with someone else who their family disapproves of.
