So many things are passed down from parent to child; a mother’s eyes, a father’s laugh. But these aren’t the only things. Ideals, such as distrust for certain people, yearnings for individuality, and maybe dislikes for certain governments can also be passed from parent to child. To a totalitarian society, this could lead to a of life-or-death situation to their rule, which could be threatened by those who strongly oppose them. A dictator would want parents separated from children so they could stop learning from parents, and teach whatever propaganda they would want the kids to learn, and it gives older generations less to fight for. The primary reason for all of these actions is that the leaders of the society would do whatever possible to maintain a their rule, even into future generations. When one analyzes the perspectives of the leaders in Ayn Rand’s, "Anthem," one can see why the rulers would want to separate children from their parents. Prometheus says that “[His son] will be taught to say ‘I’ and to bear the pride of it,”(100) which goes against everything that the government teaches. If Prometheus and others similar to him raised their own kids, the dynasty and way of life could be in danger for those in charge. They could spread all of the slandering lies (or truths that you want to be hidden) they wanted, and those in charge would be powerless to stop them. In a few generations, assuming they are not reported, these messages and ideals could be received by many people, and start a revolution. If, as a regime, their primary goal is to last as long as possible, revolutions are not exactly what one want in the state of which the preside. This brings the conversation to the converse of the previous reason. In a totalitarian state, the worst thing one can do is give subjects the tools to rise against you. These tools aren't necessarily things like bombs and weapons. They can be as simple as thoughts of reform, o
