In this visual representation, I have used a variety of different techniques to convey my theme ˜Friendship blurs identity, as one begins to assimilate the other'. I have created a broken heart to symbolize Finny and Gene's friendship, I chose to make it this way because I wanted to show that once friendship is broken it can be repaired. On one side of the heart I chose to make the background color light blue, as it represents confidence, truth, and loyalty. On the other side I decided to make the to make the background yellow, as it represents dishonesty, and jealousy. On the top of the heart I have placed two hands, which represent Finny and Gene's hands, to reflect the idea that Finny is trying to grab Gene's hand without knowing his baggage that comes along with him, and not knowing how Gene really is from the inside. It also reflects the idea of both of them trying to reach out for each other and both wanting to be connected but the space (crack) doesn't allow them. The reason that I chose to do the two hands in pencil and not in a marker is to show that friendship will never be permanent. Knowing that it's really hard to build a relationship but at the same time it's really easy to destroy it. I have placed a tree on both sides of the heart, because it's the central symbol within the novel. It's symbolic of fear in which Gene lived in at school, "with the sensation that I was throwing my life away . More importantly based on Finny's characterization the tree represents a loss of innocence, jealousy and betrayal, when Gene jounces the limb purposely to make Finny Fall. On the left I have placed an image of a dark blue graduation hat to demonstrate how Gene is very good at academics, and to show his desire to become class valedictorian, I specifically chose the color dark blue as it represents knowledge and seriousness. I chose to place two adjectives in the center of the heart, which are athlete and knowledgeable because it
