Questions and the Study of Physics

21 Pages 682 Words 1557 Views

The ability to question is what makes us special as human beings. What was there before the Big Bang? Is time travel possible? It is ideas like these that set my imagination alight and possess me to find out more. Studying Physics will allow me to understand the fundamental theories that govern our Universe, so that I may endeavour to answer such questions. 'The Perfect Theory' by Pedro Ferreira was the inception of my love for Physics. It gave me a thorough insight into how Einstein’s theory of relativity was perfected and how it could be applied to all aspects of Physics, from quantum theory to space. It is the intimate relationship between the theory of relativity and quantum theory that has sparked my passion for Quantum Physics. Led by my intrigue, I attended a lecture on quantum theory. I was captivated by the Schrodinger’s cat experiment and astonished how the cat could be in two states simultaneously, and only settle on one when observed. This changed my perception of reality; who observes us to decide whether we see the cat dead or alive? Or do both realities happen in parallel? The more I learn, the more questions that arise, and the more I feel compelled and motivated to find the answers. My enthusiasm for Physics is also prevalent within my school. I took part in an open day for year 11 students, where I had to inspire them with my passion for Physics so that they may pursue it at A Level. I was also involved in a scheme where I helped much younger students gain a keen interest in the subject, by allowing them to conduct experiments such as the static test with a Van der Graaf generator, and explaining the principles behind it. Studying Physics and Mathematics have made me adept at dealing with numerical data and allow me to tackle problems in a logical manner; I have also developed a pragmatic and analytical approach to problem solving. Through experiments in Chemistry, I have enhanced my ability to analyse and eva
