Introduction The aim of this essay is to summarise and to critically reflect on the differences between management and counselling supervision, and to explain the differences in 1-2-1 and group sessions. I will explain the three main functions and the supervisor/Supervisee relationship; I will include the ethical requirements of professional practise and the responsibilities of the Supervisee/counsellor. I will describe two types of referral scenarios, with reflection and on the ethics and the emotional considerations. BACP Ethical Framework Providing a good standard of practice and care (BACP, 2013): Maintaining competent practice 7. All counsellors. Psychotherapists, trainers and supervisors are required to have regular and ongoing supervision/consultative support for their work in accordance with professional requirements. Supervisors and managers may form a triangular relationship with a counsellor or psychotherapist, particularly where services are being provided within an agency. All parties to this relationship have a responsibility to clarify their expectations of each other and, in particular, the steps that ought to be taken to address any concerns over client safety.
