The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, shows how Abigail and company take control of the city of Salem. With manipulation and determination she convinced everyone that witch spirits are loose in Salem, and by letting that out brought chaos into the streets of Salem. Mary Warren, Tituba, and Betty Parris, all helped Abigail in keeping this hoax alive. by controlling what went inside the courtroom gave them all the power because they are the ones who call the shots. One could say that they were jangling the keys to the kingdom by falsely accusing people of being witches, controlling what went on in the courtroom, and scheming together to get what they wanted. This is what made the trials corrupt and unjust. Abigail, the master planner of everything, used manipulation to control the girls to get them to dance in the forest for her own evil going. “Let either of you breathe a word, or edge of a word, about the other things, and I will come to you in the black and terrible night and will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you” (Crucible 837). When they got caught, Abigail took control of the girls minds by telling them that she will kill who ever would come out tell the truth. When Abigail got the girl’s loyalty, an opportunity presented itself. If they told which people were with the devil they would have a fresh new start. This was how they came into control of the city of Salem. “The afflicted girls were present at the examinations and trials, often creating such pandemonium that the proceedings were interrupted. The accused witches were, for the most part, persons of good reputation in the community; one was even a former minister in the village. Several notable individuals were "cried out" upon, including John Alden and Lady Phips.  All the men and women who were hanged had consistently maintained their innocence; not one confessor to the crime was executed.
