On the other hand, I conclude my introduction by elaborating to the class the summary of the impacts of cell phone. WHAT IS CELL PHONE? In this slide, I provide cell phone definition using four sources which includes: According to an online dictionary, American Heritage Dictionary, it states that a mobile radiotelephone often in an automobile that uses a network of short-range transmitters located in overlapping cells throughout a region, with a central station making connections to regular telephone lines. It also called mobile telephone or cell phone. Dictionary.com state that a cellular phone is a mobile telephone system using low-powered radio transmitters, with each transmitter covering a distinct geographical area (cell), and computer equipment to switch a call from one area to another, thus enabling large-scale car or portable phone service. From a cultural dictionary, a cell phone is a portable telephone that uses wireless cellular technology to send and receive phone signals. This technology works by dividing the Earth into small regions called cells. Within each cell the wireless telephone signal goes over its assigned bandwidth to a cell tower, which relays the signal to a telephone switching network, connecting the user to the desired party. Based on Wikipedia, a cell phone is also called mobile phone, mobile, hand phone, wireless phone, cellular phone, cellular device, cell, cellular telephone, mobile telephone or cell telephone which is a long-range, electronic device used for mobile telecommunications over a cellular network of specialized base station known as cell sites. HOW CELL PHONE WORKS This is the slide where I explained to the class how actually the cell phone works. Cell phone are a great gadgets where with a cell phone, people can talk to anyone on the planet from just about anywhere. Nowadays, cell phones provide an incredible array of functions, and new ones are being added at a breakneck pace. Depending on the cell-phone model, people can store contact information, make task or to-do lists, keep track of appointments and set reminders, use the built-in calculator for simple math, send or receive e-mail, get information such as news, entertainment, stock quotes from the Internet, play games, watch TV, send text messages, integrate other devices such as PDAs, MP3 players and GPS receivers and other functions as well. According to Ben Bunag, a store manager for the Cell phone Brokers in San Jose, California, Cell phones work by transmitting a signal to a tower, which in turn sends signals to either land lines to other towers. Cell phones are actually extremely sophisticated radios. A cell phone is a full-duplex device. Full-duplex means that people can use one frequency for talking and a second frequency for listening. Both people can talk at once. Cell phones operate within cells, and they switch cells as they move around. Cells give cell phones incredible range. Inside the cell phone are microprocessors which handle all the housekeeping chores for the keyboard and display and control signaling with the base station and also coordinate the rest of the functions on the board. Furthermore, each city in a country is divided into small division. This small division is called “cell”. The technology behind cells have changed dramatically over the years just as cell phones have but now most standard cells are about 10 square miles large. They are usually in the shape of a hexagon. Nowadays, every individual cell has its own base station rather than only one for an entire city. Now cell phones are made to be low-power transmitters either 0.3 watts or 6 watts which is much lower wattage than in past decades. This means that the same frequency can be used in the same city, at the same time, but in different cells. Look at the diagram 1 below to get a visual picture of how city is divided into cells. The yellow cells are transmitting at the same frequency. The c
