David Logan is a faculty member at the University of Southern California. He is also a best selling author and management consultant. In his TED talk, posted on www.ted.com, he delivers an inspiring message about communication, culture, and influence. He speaks of these things and how they connect the world through tribal association. The people you talk to every day, at work, on the phone, social media, are all people who are a part of your tribe. Logan explains a tribe to be bigger than a team maybe 50 to 150 people. Logan say's, "It is within these tribes that all of our work gets done. But not just work, within these tribes societies get built." He talks about the essence of great tribal leaders and how great tribal leaders find other members of other tribes and make introductions. When we look at a population usually there is a number behind it. A population of 1 million, 50 million, 1 billion people, etc. The truth is the population of people can be broken down into individual types and the thing that separates us from one another is culture. We are all different in various ways, where we come from, who we choose to associate with, how you choose to interact with one another. As talked about in this speech, the common goal of a tribe is to push your specific group to becoming their very best selves. Logan breaks the moving forward process down in 5 stages. The first stage is associated with the criminals, gangs, and the prison systems. These are people who have miserable lives and want others to suffer for it. They separate themselves from a functioning culture and entice people to do wrong as they do. These types of tribes are said to have a "Life Sucks Mentality. We so often disassociate ourselves with these types of people and rightfully so.
