Youtube has become a major part in my life. From making occasional videos to watching videos everyday, I have been hooked on the site for the past four years. Going on youtube has literally become by daily routine when it comes to keeping up with my subscriptions and watching and learning from new videos. With all its success it has gained from myself and from the rest of the world, how did youtube get its start anyway? For the past eight years youtube has become the most popular video sharing site in the world. The website allows users to find, view, and share original videos. With over a billion users, youtube has over four billion hours of video and over a trillion views each day. Youtube was founded in 2005 by past paypal employees Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim. On February 14, 2005 it got its active domain name as youtube. YouTube's first headquarters were above a pizza shop in San Mateo. Six months prior to its debut the creators came out with a preview of the site for the public in May 2005. During its early days youtube was angel funded with the firm Sequoia Capital as one of its first investors. The company had invested 3.5 million dollars to the starting up website at the time. YouTube's popularity grew very much during its first couple of months, that later Sequoia Capital and Artis Capital Marketing invested eight million dollars into the website. Youtube's first video is titled "Me at the Zoo . The clip starred one of the sites cofounders Jawed Karim under the username as Jawed. The clip showed the fellow cofounder at the San Diego Zoo raving about elephants. The video is still being watched today with over 10 million views and Jawed's channel has over 35,000 subscribers. The channel only contains the cofounder's 19 second clip. In 2006, youtube became one of the fastest growing websites online. In the month of July that year, 65,000 videos were being uploaded each day. This brought in over 100 million views daily. The site soon overtook the website MySpace in growth pace. The site's users were mostly from the 12-17 age range. In June 2006 youtube opened a partnership with NBC network. This deal would allows NBC to post promotional video clips on youtube for its company. Youtube would also be featured on NBC as well. Along with NBC's partnership came stricter copyright rules. Videos that did clash with these new rules were removed making youtube a more marketable site. After the summer of 2006 Google acquired Youtube for $1.65 billion dollars in October. Until this day youtube is still a part of Google. Youtube is still independently run by its board and then 67 employees at the time, but Google has helped youtube in becoming a more organized and more marketable website for advertising. As the site became bigger and bigger, YouTube was becoming more international, later in 2007, YouTube announced it will be launched in nine other countries. These countries were Brazil, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, and the United Kingdom. This meant that each of the countries would have their own version of YouTube.
