For many years, it has been greatly and widely debated if celebrities get special treatment or easier sentences when it comes to breaking the law. Across the globe, there are several cases of celebrities receiving different penalties for breaking the law verses a regular, non-celebrity also breaking the same law. From the early 70's all the way to current day, celebrity crimes have been occurring from minor to major laws that have been broken. Among some of the more popular celebrities that get caught for their crimes are Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Charlie Sheen, Britney Spears, Khloe Kardashian, Justin Bieber, O.J. Simpson and many more. With people on both sides of the argument, the majority of people agree that celebrities do receive special or less punishment than the regular man. In a poll on whether or not celebrities are punished less or more, 88% of voters agreed that celebrities are treated better than non-celebrities, while 12% disagreed and thought celebrities are convicted the same as the average man (debate.org). Most famous people are charged with serving in jail but soon after, sometimes hours later, are taken out and put on probation or have to pay the bail fee. For example, Paris Hilton was charged with a DUI in September of 2006 with a blood alcohol concentration of .08%. Since it has been illegal in all 50 U.S. states since 2002 to drive with a blood alcohol concentration that is .08% or higher, she was charged with a suspended license, 36 months of probation, and a 1,500$ fine. On January 15, 2007 Hilton was pulled over again for driving with a suspended license, and on February 27, 2007 she was pulled over once more for speeding and driving with a suspended license-again. For the other two suspended license driving, Hilton was sentenced to 45 days in jail, but was released 22 days after her imprisonment due to an unspecified medical reason. (popcrunch.com) The first side (side A) agrees that celebrities are given easier trials or punishments for breaking the law, saying that because celebrities get paid more they can afford better lawyers, pay their own bail, or even pay people to vote not guilty for their trials. In March 2007, Khloe Kardashian was charged with DUI, and sentenced to a 30 day trial to jail but was released 3 hours after beginning her sentence. Side A says that the only reason celebrities are sentenced easier trials is because of their fame. No matter what the cause or how famous the person is, fame is a force to be reckoned with. In 1994, OJ Simpson was charged with murder for killing his wife and her friend. Not to mention 5 years prior he was also charged with beating his wife, this somehow slipped the jury's mind. On January 25, 1995, the OJ Simpson murder trial was commenced and continued on for the next 8 months
