Winston Churchill possessed many outstanding qualities in which all contributed to his achievement of being known as one of the best statesmen of the 20th century. Churchill undoubtedly held the powerful ability to inspire the British nation in even the most desperate of situations. For instance, when Hitler conquered surrounding nations, Churchill rejuvenated the spirits of the British people and convinced them of their impenetrable strength to resist Germany and Nazism through his speeches, “We Shall Never Surrender," and, “The Fall of France." Churchill also had unwavering confidence that diffused among the people he inspired. More specifically, when he was Lieutenant Colonel fighting Germany, he encouraged and inspired his battalion by bravely fighting in the front line. Churchill’s passion for democratic freedom was another major component for his success, despising injustice, an advocate in moderate government, and a believer in the foundations of democracy: that all people have the right to vote. Lastly, and my personal favorite of his qualities was his astonishing humility, because as privileged and blessed as he was he never failed to remember that he was human like the rest. Stated previously, although he was of higher rank than his fellow soldiers, Churchill risked his life and fought by their side on the front-line, encouraging them and ultimately establishing their loyalty toward him. As a social reformer, he strove to eradicate all social injustices for his people. Introducing the eight-hour work day for hard-working coal miners, fixing minimum wages, assisting the unemployed, and improving prison life are just a selection of examples of his humility. Churchill cared and respected the underdogs or unprivileged but also had an immense admiration and appraisal for patriotism in the form of individual sacrifice.
