Socialization is a lifelong process during which we learn about social expectations and how to interact with other people. Nearly all of the behavior that we consider to be of "Human nature" is actually learned through socialization. Many agents ?of? socialization have ?shaped ?the ?person I? am? today. Some have ?molded my ?personality ?and ?character ?from? birth ?to present. After analyzing various agents of socialization that have shaped who I am, I feel that family, school, and peer groups are the agents of socialization with the most impact in my life. These are the elements which have influenced and continue to influence my emotions, attitudes, and behavior, in different ways as I age. The role of family in my social development was crucial, as family is usually considered to be the most important agent of socialization. Family was my first source through which I commenced my social communication. As a child, I learned to see and interpret myself and society through the understandings of my parents and other elders in my family. It is with the aid of my older family members that I become familiar with social culture. My family taught me “socially acceptable” ways of thinking and behaving. Values including sharing, honesty, discipline were also cultivated in me, from them. Additionally, they provided me with my first system of values, norms, and beliefs. This system is usually a reflection of their own social status, religion, and ethnic group. How my parents treated me, and also how they behaved in front of me was vital in determining what I perceived, and how I developed a sense of “self." As a child, I spent about seven to eight hours a day in school. There is no denying the fact that school had an important and lifelong impact on my socialization process. Apart from teaching me to read and write, and helping me in subjects such as math, languages, and science, it also had a latent function of teaching within me.
