Preparing for Online Courses

On the first day of online class, maneuvering through the syllabus and multiple links of the NLU website, it was obvious online courses were going to be a major educational challenge. I am sitting in my computer room, and my wife Michelle is speaking to one of her many friends on the phone. Her conversation is one of the many distractions I will have to block out of my head, for fear of the unknown online objectives has me a little rattled. If there is any chance of making it through this semester; time management, communication and organization would have to be on my side. As the realization sets in that. I will have to swim or drown with the course requirements or pay these monies back for the course, anxiety slowly starts to surface. I realize preparation and time management must be priority one for me to succeed. The syllabus should be my first priority from what I have gathered speaking to my wife Michelle, who is an online guru who takes college courses on a regular basis. My racquetball partner Rodney, who is finishing his master's degree. via online classes has confirmed her recommendations as well. I jump into the course feet first ensuring I have comprehended all the reading material, moving methodically through each area on the webpage . The time constraints of the course were going to be a daunting task for my personality as I am a master of procrastination. I subconsciously wait knowing the outcome will not be beneficial to my present situation. The good thing about my problem is, procrastination can be curbed. One can break the cycle of procrastination if one is determined and focused. Researchers have said that it takes 21 days to form a good habit. In a sense, with procrastination, you are breaking a bad habit and forming a good habit. More time may be necessary for success [Jar08].
