Many people believe that contact sports should be allowed in public schools. There are also many arguments that can prove that kids shouldn't be able to play these sports. People think that these sports should be ban due to head injuries. Contact sports should not be allowed in all public schools. There are more and more studies being shown about head injuries affecting kids lives in the long run. Young kids can get an injury to the head and not even realize until it is too late. There are many different ways to prove that contact sports should be ban from public schools. Banning these sports from schools would not be to angry children but it would be to protect them. An example of the long term brain damage effect is University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow had a widely publicized concussion in a September 2009 game. He was sacked and hit his head. He lost consciousness and spent the night in the hospital (TH&W2010;). This event was very harmful to an adult quarterback, it would've been much worse for a child. It would be a very beneficial idea to ban these sports from public school for kids health. Many different risks come to play when you are dealing head injuries. Medical research is very limited with head injuries, especially children. Children and teens brains are very hard to work with because they are not fully developed yet. One great example of this is in an article from Sports Illustrated, because every brain injury is different and scientific research is limited, doctors say they're unable to draw a straight line from past concussions to increased susceptibility for future ones. The risk depends on factors such as severity of the blow (SI 2012). This puts many student athletes at risk of proper treatment; many tests would have to be done before the patient would actually start to be treated.
