Social work could be defined as services that are offered to people who are in need of restoring or enhancing their capacity for social functioning and to create conditions favorable to their goals. These services could be rendered through income security programs, juvenile rehabilitation, vocational rehabilitation, provisional of recreation and leisure, improve life of the elderly and many others. Social work has been practiced over the past two centuries in the case of the United States of America (late 1800). This paper discusses a vision of social work services in the 21st century. Despite the main focus being on Malawi, the paper will also give a fair picture of the western countries such as United States of America. There is social work that deals directly with clients as individuals, households and communities while the other one deal with organizations and departments that advocate for the needs of the needy. Both kinds of social work are important because they strive for the betterment of the needy. Malawi is a developing country whose social work services heavily depend on donor aid through government, nongovernmental organizations and the agriculture based economy for its development over the past century. However with the diversification programs taking place such as mining, improvement of water transport to the sea, improved fish industry and the green belt initiative it is envisioned that its economy will improve distinctively with a booming industry. The social security services will improve although this will be ensured by economic growth of the country. The country may experience better pension perks for its workers who will have a good take away home package. Infrastructure development will improve which may see construction of many homes for the elderly, orphans and the homeless. With the current trend of development the country will also see many young people taking tertiary education in Social Welfare Services. Wi
