Katniss Everdeen is the heroine of Suzanne Collins book "The Hunger Games." Katniss is a girl everyone wants to be like. Readers will later on find out that Katniss is a self-sacrificing person, a loving daughter to her family, and a resourcefully skilled person in many ways. Wholeheartedly, Katniss Everdeen is self sacrificing. She is self sacrificing because she volunteered for her sister in the games. When her sister Prim’s name is drawn out of the ball Katniss shouts “I volunteer, I volunteer as tribute” and takes her place. Katniss also shows her unselfish nature when she puts herself in danger to save Peeta Mellark. Peeta is wounded in the games and Katniss leaves him to go acquire the medicine at the feast. She continues to show her selflessness by putting herself in jeopardy by hunting outside of District Twelve’s boundaries. Delightfully, Katniss is a loving daughter and sibling in many ways. She became the parent when her dad died. “District Twelve," where you can starve to death in safety.” District Twelve is one of the twelve districts. There used to be thirteen districts, but the thirteenth one got blown to bits when they started the war with the capitol. The capitol is where President Snow lives; also he is very manipulative and snakelike and later on becomes Katniss’s enemy. Katniss took over feeding her family and doing the hunting when her mom fell into a depression. Emotionally, Katniss is exceptionally strong. She emotionally supports her family by taking care of them and buying and trading her kills for food and supplies. She provides the love for her little sister prim. Katniss preserves her family from starvation. She brought home the food and money that saves her family. Katniss shows readers how she is a devoted sister to her family by waking up really early in the morning and going hunting and gathering edible plants. Solidly, Katniss is a very skilled individual.
