Introduction Global warming, due to climate change, is an environmental concern with global implications that increasingly receives attention today - especially in the media. The media are key players in global warming communication since a majority of the populations do not read scientific reports, specialist websites, etc. The global media is dominated by a global logic in news presentation with tensions arising over global warming and media logic. This calls for a collective responsibility transcending national borders. However, the media have done a three-fold disservice to the public through the shaping of news production by large-scale political and economic factors; allowing other issues to unfavorably compete for public attention with climate news; and failure in reporting on climate science uncertainties which has enabled skeptics to paralyze mass action. The media have allowed for the shaping of news production by large-scale political and economic factors. There is a strong linkage between the political perspective of a media organization and its stand towards global warming. Thus, journalists can only write what they like only if their stories are deemed free of any politically discordant tones. This essentially means that whatever they write should fit the ideology of their seniors in the hierarchy. Any story supporting the status quo is considered neutral and its objectivity remains unquestioned. Statements that support the existing political outfit are considered as facts while those that question it are dismissed as mere opinions (Parenti 35, 50). Goldberg argues that most media lean leftward in their individual politics thus assuming these positions to be morally correct and reasonable (Goldberg 4).
