Motherhood is a category which has been critiqued and reviewed in a variety of ways. It is often asexual and is described as a cultural imposition that erases sexuality and selfhood. Aneesh Anwar through Zachariya Yude Garbinikal takes a daringly different take on this contemporary relevant theme. Projecting mother as a self-effacing and sacrificing person has been the tradition. Anwar deviates from seeing motherhood as a cultural imposition which denies woman personhood. Zachariya (Lal), a veteran gynaecologist of having twenty five years of experience in successfully handling various cases with complexities; but, call it fate or anything “he and his wife Suzan Mary" (Asha Sharath) are not given the chance to have babies by God. At the same time, Zachariya has some problem now in his hospital. A set of four different pregnant women have come in for his consultation. Saira (Sanusha) is a teenager girl, with some mysterious behind her untimed pregnancy. She is not at all ready to divulge the man behind all the stuff. Anuradha (Sandra Thomas), wife to a rich, but rather old man Hari (Joy Thomas). Hari has entered a stage in his life where he will not survive from an illness which caused him to be bedridden for the rest of his life, while some doctors predicted that his days are over. At the same time, the extra marital affair of Anuradha lead for having her twin babies in her womb. While Jasmine Jennifer (Geetha), who has decided to choose a normal way of living with children rather than living the life of a priestess; Fathima (Rima Kallingal), a nurse in Zachariah's hospital, by circumstances was forced to act as a pregnant woman. Aju (Aju Varghese), her co-worker slowly develops an affection towards Fathima. It is the complexities that Zachariya has to undergo in consulting all these four ladies, which forms the core story of the movie.
