George Washington was not only our first United States President, but a man who would set the standards for leadership forever. Born on February 22, 1732 in Westmoreland Virginia, George Washington would soon master growing tobacco, stock raising and surveying. He would endure the death of his mother, father, and half-brother as well as many other family members, which would leave him to be the heir apparent of the Washington lands, or most commonly known as Mount Vernon. Little did Washington know, he would be the best known military Soldier. His visionary leadership would lead him to a commission into the army as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1754. His characteristics are what made him a great leader. His profound morality, his selflessness are what brought him to one of his greatest accomplishments in 1775, as the commander in Chief in the continental army when he fought gallantly during the French and Indian war. George Washington exemplifies Covey’s seven habits in many ways, but in a way I relate to the most are his efforts in “sharpening the saw”. I enjoy living a well-balanced life. Staying true to myself, like Washington’s character that remained incorruptible throughout his tenacious career. He was able to control his emotions through his darkest days, turning to self-control, demonstrating great balance. George Washington could have let his lack of education take the reins on his life and warp his path to a great accomplishment. But his triumph and inspiration to be happy kept him on the right path. As a leader, he fought with his troops. He knew that just because he could not write as beautiful as his peers didn't mean he had to steer away from his destiny. Although becoming president, his integrity was profoundly tested, whether It was dealing with debts, or private businesses.
