Throughout my life, I have read many books, listened to thousands of songs, seen an endless barrage of films and heard many podcasts. Though as Linda Holmes, the writer of the article “The Sad, Beautiful Fact That We're All Going To Miss Almost Everything," points out “You simply will have no chance of seeing even most of what exists." What she means by this, is that there is so much media in the world that it would be impossible to consume all of it and there is new media each day. I agree with this because it is solely up to you to whether you want to consume as much as the media that you desire. But hold on isn't there a choice you would have to make between reading one book from another, maybe you feel like a philosophy rather than a romantic or a nonfiction rather than a mystery. This is called “culling”. “To choose what you do for yourself” says Holmes. This is a major point in her article and also a great life lesson. If you take in consideration that you have the opportunity to choose in any situation you may find yourself in, you are able to pick the outcome and what will be more beneficial to you. For instance, you might not want to read a long piece of work because it is difficult for you to keep your focus. This is how it is for me, I have a difficult time holding focus. Not because the material I’m reading is not intriguing but just too long. So now surfaces another term that Holmes shines light on; “Surrender, the realization that you do not have time for everything that would be worth the time you invested in it if you had the time.” Keep in mind that surrendering is frowned upon by those who merely disapprove of failure, but in this case, surrendering can be good! What I believe Holmes means by this is that if you realize you don't have the time or that the material won't really benefit you, why should you take the time to pursue it rather than move on to something more beneficial? If we are trying to
