Between the male and the female authors I feel that their are many differences, but I can't seem to find many similarities. I think the male and the female authors go completely different directions with their stories and their writing style. All of the women authors and stories are very much a like. As the male authors and stories are alike as well. The male and female authors/stories together though I feel do not have many similarities. All of the female authors I feel write in similar ways. All of their stories tend to be a bit dark. In the stories the main characters all seem to be helpless as well. In the story “The Yellow Wallpaper” the main character is controlled by her husband through the entire story. She has to be careful about what she says to her husband because she is suppose to stand behind him in everything he does. She is also to do what he says and not speak out against him. I think those are definitely signs of being helpless. In the story “The Story of an Hour,” the main character does not really like her husband. He is not meant to her but he does tend to look down on her. In the story, her husband was away and she hears news that her husband has died. Instead of feeling upset, she is sort of relieved. She feels like she is free from him. In this time period all of the women were made to stand by their husband and his choices even if they didn't want to. So she felt like she was trapped until he did die. But in the story she realizes it ends up being false information as she sees her husband walk through the door. She is shocked by what she is seeing, she finally felt relieved and it was all taken back when her husband walked through the door. She ended up dying from the shock and the heart issues that she had. So I believe that in this situation she was helpless because she felt like she couldn't get out. In the last female author story “A Wagner Matinee” the main character used to be a music teacher until she married a farmer and
