From the ancient Mayan Pyramid temples in Latin America, the incredible Great Fire of London, and to the more modern elevating structures in the Empire State building, staircases have always been a salient part of human culture. We can also note that staircases also define whether a civilization or establishment, is memorialized through history. This is why I believe Valdosta State University (VSU) should begin to create more staircases around campus, and to augment the original stairs to a larger scale. They will not only bring immortalizing fame to our front door, but they can build a greater economy and also ease us in to living better, healthier lives. Looking back on history, and comparing between great civilizations and their landmarks, we can easily identify staircases as the medium between their monuments. Monuments like the Mayan Pyramids, which have over 350 steps, are now visited by millions of tourist from all over the world. If Valdosta State were to receive this type of publicity in any form, the economy within the school and the city could be boosted. Moreover, people who have earned their higher education at VSU, will also have even greater pride for their beautiful campus. Increasing the number of stairs on campus could improve the grandeur of the university. With the burden of a busy academic schedule, many people at VSU find it incredibly difficult to create time to work out. Once students and teachers do not make the effort to better their lives physically, their mental state begins to drop. This can harm grades, and eventually the entire school. My proposal to increase the staircases around Valdosta State, is the best solution to solve this predicament. As numerous teachers and students walk up and down, on the newly annexed steps, they will be inadvertently receiving physical activity that they would not be able to make time for elsewhere. Unfortunately, there will be groups of people throughout Valdosta State
