My interviews began with CNA, Mrs. Barbara Cook Herrin, which works at a nursing home facility by the name of The Madison House When I asked CNA Herrin what she felt was the most pressing nursing home issues in her area, she stated: “Well I really can't related to any issues here, but where I did my internship, I think that the biggest issue would be the cost of stay for the patients." My internship was at a nursing home that was very cheap, here (at the Madison House) it is more upscale. My internship was horrible in terms of the treatment and care of the patients. Bed sores, patients laying in soiled adult diapers, and bad patient hygiene was very common there. Here it is all about 100% patient care and more like a five star hotel for elder patients. The only issues I have here is having to deal with other workers who don’t always show empathy for our patients. I think more time should be given when hiring equality employees.” [Her14]. My second interview continued with CNA, Mrs. Martha Robinson, who works for the Trinity Mission Health Care Nursing Home and Rehab. When I asked CNA Robinson what she felt was the most pressing nursing home issues in her area, she stated: “It is really heartbreaking to me when other employees don't take care of their patients here with love. They don't seem to make sure all of their needs are met while maintaining their dignity. Some of the employees do not shave the residents, or comb their hair, or clean their faces after eating. It is worse though, when they do dangerous things like forget their patient in the bathroom or move them roughly. I care for these people and I often pick up the slack and will not take breaks because I’m trying to help the patients who are not assigned to me on my spare time.” [Rob14].
