Horizontal fracking is “drilling down deep, then the drill head is turned, and drilling continues horizontally a mile or more, fracturing the shale along the way to release gas.” (New gas drilling raises pollution concerns: part 2). It is a new form of drilling that is becoming very popular in the US. While it provides us with more gas, when the gas is released, it can get into drinking wells and cause chemicals to mix with our water. It also uses up to 5.5 million gallons of water-which can never be used again. Although it provides more gas for the US citizens, it is causing more problems than solutions. Using my research as backup, I believe horizontal fracking should be stopped. It is not good for our Earth and the nature upon it. The 5.5 million, plus, gallons of water being used in our 1.1 million wells is a lot of water (5,500,000,000,000 gallons) that can never be used again. If any human or animal comes in contact with the chemicals from the fracking, it can cause extreme harm. There are large chances of accidents happening. The water can leak through the ground into our water sources. This can and will end up being consumed. The Benzene and Formaldehyde chemicals in the water can cause cancer for humans. Although fracking has its pros, I don’t think it will help in the long run. It does cause jobs for many unemployed people, but the ability to frack will soon end. It is inevitable that non-renewable resources will run out. They are, after all, non-renewable. We are turning our renewable resources (water) into non-renewable by fracking. Our water cycle is shrinking because we are removing a lot of water from the cycle with every place that we frack. Fracking could be good, but I don't think it is going to help the US in the long run. It is not going to stop the inevitable. Eventually our Earth will run out of this non-renewable resource. It is a strongly relied on resource that will be replaced. Our Earth and nature can
