Whenever someone travels overseas, they are like “a fish out of water.” In general, we do not think too much about the culture we are raised in. Our culture helps us to sharpen our identity. Many of the cues of interpersonal communication are different in various culture. When we enter a new culture, we do not know all of the cues that are used in the new culture. Everything is different, because each nationality’s geographical position, development of history, ideological, habits, customs, values and religious belief. Thus, the difference has formed the cultural standards, namely so-called cultural diversity. That is the case of the cultural conflict had been taking place repeatedly because of the differences that lie in the concept of value, ethics moral and national customs among various countries. Concept as has often make many jokes, appearances and circumstances which has made them embarrassed. In addition, due to the conflict of different culture, it is influencing our social life, interpersonal communication and the progress of an individual. It is known that prejudice is someone’s view diverges from those who observe the correct social norms. Therefore, prejudice is kind of subjective, which is influenced by personal experiences, living environments, level of educational, race, gender and so forth. It is true that opinions vary from person to person, so it may cause distinctions and prejudices around our society. In the article of “The Parish and the Hill” by Mary Doly Curran, she explains that she came from an Irish immigrant family, and lived in a small town called Irish Parish; also her grandfather is a mainstay in the family. As Curren mentions “There was no escape from it and no hope that is would not leave its mark.” Curran’s family moved to the Hill, which is more middle-class family lived there. However Curran found her family has a hard time fitting in, because no matter where they move, they are always a traditional Irish family. Due to the tensions between the “Working Class” family, which is a traditional Irish family, and the “Lace-Curtain” family, who are trying to become like their Yankee neighbors. Surprisingly, the bias till exist between two different social status family. Curran describes “ I was just about to go in when I heard, ‘But mother, she is so dirty and ---’ It was Ann’s voice. ‘Yes, I know she is, but you must be generous, Ann. After all, she is you cousin.’ ‘I don’s care. I won’t play with her and I want to go home. I don’t like them any of them. The silverware was greasy.” Mary’s aunt Josie married to a Yankee, and had a house among the Irish on the “Money Hold Hill”, which is a community for most of prestigious middle-class family. In addition, Ann is produced by Aunt Josie, she always thought she was lace-curtain, and looked down upon to Curran, who are from traditional Irish family. Although Curran’s family moved to the Hill, it still cannot change their social status. The lower-status family is hard to being accepted by the higher-status family, even though they are has familial relationship to each other. This is a kind of class discrimination of low social status, while diversity also caused misunderstanding in communication. Moreover, in the trans-cultural background learning environment, the biggest barrier is the cultural difference that brings the influence, such as people might make mistake in communication or misunderstanding of the culture. In the article of “Mother Tongue” by Amy Tan, Tan claims the idea that they speak different languages to communicate with each other and that our intelligence is judged by the way they speak. Tan observes experiences that helped her notice the different type of “English's” she uses. As child born in a chines culture, Tan had to speak to types of languages. Tan’s mother is Chines and she talks about “giving respect” in the Chines culture with her “broken English.” T
