Dodgeball is a game that seems to have been around since the beginning of time. I feel as if everyone learned about dodge ball as young as being a baby. It sounds ridiculous, but that’s because you don’t see where I’m coming from. If you think about it, parents take their babies on walks all the time and to different events that the parents need to attend. If a parent takes their child on a walk to the park and kids are playing dodge ball outside, the baby is more than likely watching the children play dodge ball and is learning about the sport visually. Even though they are not physically and mentally able to participate they are still learning something new that they will understand better later on life. Children get a chance to participate in dodge ball activities when they become of age and especially when they learn about it in their elementary physical education classes. Dodgeball is a fun sport, people of all ages can participate, and I’m pretty sure everyone knows about the game. Like most games, dodgeball comes with certain rules and there are guidelines that have to be followed to ensure a successful game. For instance, according to www.dodgeballusa.com/rules, “Teams will be made up of 6-10 players. Six (6) players will compete on a side; others will be available as substitutes” (1). This matters when there is an official game going on. Normally most people are playing for recreational fun so the numbers of players on the teams do not really matter. The court has to have a line going to the middle in order to separate the opposing teams. There are a variety of balls that could be used to play dodge ball, but the most commonly used ball is an 8.25” rubber-coated foam ball.
