“I’m just an all-around happy girl who loves everything about her life.” – Missy Franklin Four time Olympic gold medalist and world record holder, Melissa “Missy” Franklin, is a swimmer who is strong, humble, smart, and is positive role model who empowers women. Born in Pasadena, California in 1995 (Melissa Franklin), Missy first swam when she was toddler at the age of two (Warren, Lydia), and competed internationally by the age of fourteen. Missy Franklin is an inspirational person of magnitude because of her athletic accomplishments, intelligence, and her positive personality. After first starting to compete internationally in 2009, Missy Franklin is becoming one of the greatest, yet youngest female swimmers in the world. Breaking her first world record at the age of sixteen, and getting five Olympic medals by seventeen, she is a strong swimmer with motivation and a love of the water (Melissa Franklin). She’s an Olympic level swimmer who still enjoys training, because her unconventional coach Todd Schmitz doesn’t overwork her, and has been coaching her from the age of seven. Although she has about half the time in the water that professional swimmers have, she’s motivated and uses that time carefully and efficiently (Futterman, M.). With all her achievements at such a young age after only her first Olympic games, Missy Franklin could become the female world record for most Olympic medals (Hope, Dan). Apart from athletic success, Missy is a smart student who also maintained good grades, was offered many scholarships, and is currently attending the university of Berkeley. In high school, she was an honors student with academic awards as well as the expected athletic ones (Missy Franklin Bio).
